Happy Fourth of July, all!  I'm going to be working all doubles for the next few days during the busiest weekend of the summer!  See ya on the flip side!

Some People Suck!

Most of the time I love my job.  Most of the time I love the people I meet.  Tonight was not one of those nights.  Why am I so upset?  Most of the time when people suck I let it roll off my back.   Tonight something happened, but not to me.
I work with a wonderful woman named Adrienne. She's 50 years old and been in this business all her life.  She should be jaded and burnt out, but she's not.  She's one of the most positive people I've ever met.  She's always singing and dancing and when she describes a dessert, you want it. I always tell her she should be working at Disneyland.  She's that happy all the time.
So when a customer makes her cry, it's not good.  I hope that man feels better about himself. I hope he feels like a big man who makes a waitress cry.  And I hope the man who dined with him and let it happen feels good about himself, too!  I would never let someone I was with belittle another human being that way, much less a woman!
Mean people suck!

And he insulted my wine list!  The nerve!

Coming out of the Dark...

Well, folks, I'm heading back to ya'll!  I've been suffering from a deep depression and summer coming on has seemed to help lift it off!  I feel a little bit lighter and happier.  I have to work a double shift today, but I hope to have some pictures and a proper blog post by Monday.  In the meantime, if you're plurking, I am, too!  Click and add me to your friends!

Happy Summer!

Not that I blog alot...

but I'll be taking a couple week break from blogging.  This weekend marks the beginning of a busy season for us and I'll need all my strength to get through the next 3 days.  We are understaffed and overbooked and I don't want to cry over ding dongs again!  : )

So, instead of telling myself every day that I really should be taking pictures of my knitting and yarn and I should really work up a post, I'm just gonna take a couple of weeks off.  I almost have too much to blog about right now.  I've finished a cowl, a short cardigan, a sock and another log cabin square.  I've also started my Loopy Ewe Swap pal's project (about 4 different times) and I really want to finish it.

Have a good Memorial Day weekend, everyone and I'll see ya in a couple of weeks.

Where Ding Dongs Made Me Cry...

Yep, you heard right. Ding Dongs put me over the edge this weekend.

I live on the Oregon Coast for a reason.  I love the beach but I'm not a string bikini kind of gal.  I see all those videos on TV, etc. of people at the beach in So. Cal. and there's no way I'd want to spend a day with a thousand other people under the hot sun.  This is my kind of beach...

Look, there's two people on the beach yards away.  We might never even cross paths.  Nice, cloudy skies...cold water...a cool breeze.  Well, Thursday and Friday we had 90 degree weather here.  Not happy.  I mean in this little beach community we are whining when it hits 75.  It's too hot for us at 90.  In Portland it was nearly 100 degrees and they're not used to it either.  So, consequently, a lot of Portland comes to the beach for some relief.  I don't mind.  After all, I make my money off of tourists, mostly.

Friday night was extremely busy, we were short a server and it was HOT!  Many of you who read this blog know of the ding dongs we serve for dessert at the restaurant.  Yes, they are delicious chocolate treats.  Yes, they are funny.  Yes, they made me cry.  By the time I served my last ding dong of the night on Friday at 10:30pm, I cried.  It was just the last straw.  I just wanted to go home.  I was so tired of the trivial little stuff involved in serving on such an exhausting and HOT! night that when I went to get the berry sauce to garnish the plate with, I dissolved into a pile of tears.  Linda, the hostess, came running..."Lori, what's wrong?  OH, I'll get them, don't cry!"  She knew.  Summer is almost here and the ding dongs will soon become the bane of my existence.

Moving on.

Thanks to everyone who has commented and sent me heartfelt thoughts regarding the death of my cat, Fatty.  It's been such a hard week and I've found myself spiraling down into the depths of depression.  But as I fall, I also just stop and think and regather myself.  It's time to remember Fatty as a wonderful part of my life and remember that we have a family to grow here.  He wouldn't want us moping around too much longer.

I've been knitting a bit and here's a little pic of something that's about 75% done...

It's my take on the Anthropologie-Inspired Capelet (ravelry link) by Julia of Peonyknits! The yarn is fantastic...It's Noro Taiyo, a cotton/wool/silk blend.  Love it doesn't begin to describe.  I'll definitely be getting more of this colorway to make a scarf for myself this fall.  It's my perfect storm of colors...pinks, greens, bronzes, so many different shades of these.
I'm knitting this a little bit longer because I am a buxom gal.

I've finished a cowl, but I just can't seem to get it photographed properly.  I'll work on that this week!

This is all the post I can manage right now, I'll try to check in later in the week.

Happy Mother's Day to the mothers out there!

FO: Raindrop Lace Socks

I finished my latest socks on Friday!

S4020181

Pattern:  Raindrop Lace Socks by Evelyn Clark for Fiber Trends
This is one of my favorite sock patterns of all time.  The pattern repeat is only four rows and is super easy to memorize.

Yarn: Unique Sheep Leili sock yarn from Woolgirl in Sunstone
This yarn is a wool/mohair blend and is a very thin fingering weight.  Perfect for this delicate lace pattern and really nice to work with.

Needles:  US 2 bamboo dpns

Mods: None.  Perfect as they are.

Now I have to decide on my next socks.  Maybe some lovely Vesper self-striping socks.
